Worth Valley Primary School Oct 24 Menu
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are provided with a free school meal, regardless of their parents’ income. This is through the Universal Free School Meals Scheme.
- By choosing school meals you can rest assured that your child has a tasty and nutritious meal everyday, packed full of the goodness that meets the government’s nutritional standards for school meals.
- Our tasty school meals provide lots of choice and great variety with menus operating on a 3 week cycle
- All meat and poultry used is fresh and locally sourced and our fresh vegetables and potatoes are locally sourced and doesn’t use any preservatives, colouring or additives that are unsuitable for children
- Non meat choices are available every day and special dietary needs can be catered for.
Do I need to apply for Free School Meals?
You can apply for school meals if you receive:
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit with an annual income of less than £16,190, provided they are not receiving Working Tax Credit
- the ‘Guaranteed’ element of the State Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
- Universal Credit with an annual net earned income threshold of less than £7,400
If you are an Asylum Seeker, you will need to apply directly to the school or contact the Access Team.
My children are going to get a Free School Meal anyway – why do I still need to apply?
If you are on any of the benefits listed above it’s important to still apply as any child registered for Free School Meals may get other help too:
- for every child registered, the school will get a “Pupil Premium”. This means the school gets £1,455 per year for each child registered. This money is to help your child achieve their best at school.
- help with the cost of residential school trips
- help with travel costs to school
- help with school uniform costs
- help with council run music lessons at school

The price of school dinners are:
Nursery (30 hour pupils): £2.15 per day
Reception, Year 1 & 2: Free under the Universal Free School Meals Scheme
Years 3, 4, 5 & 6: £2.35 per day.
