History

At Worth Valley Primary School, we are committed to providing a rich and engaging history curriculum that aligns with the national curriculum statements for history. We recognise the importance of a comprehensive history curriculum that immerses students in key historical periods, events, and figures, fostering a deep understanding of the past. Our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and develop critical thinking skills, laying the foundation for informed and engaged citizens.

To ensure that our students remember and appreciate historical events, we incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including storytelling, role-playing, and multimedia resources. Additionally, we emphasise the significance of visits to historical sites and museums, providing firsthand experiences that bring history to life. These experiences not only reinforce classroom learning but also allow students to connect with the past in a tangible way.

In the early years, we understand the importance of exposing children to historical texts, vocabulary, and events tailored to their developmental stages. By introducing young learners to basic historical concepts and events from their own lifetime, we help them develop a sense of personal and collective identity. Through engaging stories, simple timelines, and interactive activities, we lay a strong foundation for future learning and inspire a lifelong love of history.

Moreover, providing access to historical resources and materials encourages curiosity and sparks imaginative exploration. Whether it’s through picture books, oral histories, or artifacts, we aim to inspire young minds to ask questions, make connections, and develop a deeper understanding of the world.

By nurturing a love for history from the earliest years, we empower children to become active participants in shaping their understanding of the world and their place within it.
